The IDEE Foundation started in December 2007, to oversee the creation of the Institut des Epilepsies de l'Enfant et de l'Adolescent (Institute of Childhood and Teenage Epilepsy) in Lyon.
Within the framework of the Fondation Rhône-Alpes Futur, the IDEE Foundation's principal mission is to seek out grants and private partners who are able to contribute to the construction and operation of this future institute, with the aim of receiving the first children in around 2010. IDEE will be an exceptional institute incorporating: major medical and surgical advances, high performing treatments, commercial therapeutic development and well developed social support. IDEE will be a new, comprehensive and innovative model of healthcare management, applied to epilepsy in children and teenagers. The big idea behind IDEE:
to fight epilepsy on all fronts! Epilepsy is the most common disabling neurological illness today. 500,000 people suffer from epilepsy in France, with 40,000 new cases every year. 10% of the population will have an epileptic seizure in their lifetime. Drug-resistant epilepsy is directly responsible for more than 500 deaths every year. And our children? They are deeply affected, with 60,000 children and teenagers suffering from epilepsy … And 10,000 new cases are reported each year.
